our history
The building, which has now become the home of the East Berlin Area Community Center, began with the original school building built in 1878 on a 8.907acre tract of land bought from Michael McSherry for $3.00. It housed all of the primary grades and the East Berlin high school. There were additions made to the building in 1930, 1936, and 1959. It was used as a school continuously until 1990 at which time it was purchased by the East Berlin Borough from the Bermudian Springs School District. At that time East Berlin, Abbottstown, Reading and Hamilton Townships in Adams County and Paradise and Washington Townships in York County joined together with equal representation to become the East Berlin Area Community Center.
Our mission
The East Berlin Area Community Center's mission is to improve the health, happiness and physical well-being of the residents of this area. The Center provides creative and meaningful year-round recreational opportunities that are accessible to everyone. We hope to play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life and self esteem of it's citizens by providing and promoting involvement in positive and constructive leisure time activities. East Berlin Area Community Center provides quality program opportunities for all age levels and strives for steady growth in participation of these programs by continually evaluating new programs, trends, and directions that connect recreational services to this community's wants and needs.
